Avenge This!

I just finished watching the Ultimate Avengers. This is a straight to DVD full length movie starring iconic Marvel characters such as Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, and the Hulk among others.

DC has really had the lion's share of good animation well, forever. With the Batman and Superman animated series and the continued run of Justice League Unlimited and the Teen Titans on the Cartoon Network, DC really has the majority of good super-hero animation out there. If you've not seen any of these shows I highly recommend them all. Good stories, familiar villains, and most are entertaining for kids AND adults alike.

Marvel comic characters have been relegated to live-action movies with mixed results. Marvel's forays into animation have been mostly sub-standard offerings on Saturday mornings. X-Men Evolution and MTV's SpiderMan are the only recent ones that come to mind. The Ultimate Avengers was very good. Probably the best animation with Marvel characters I've ever seen. The story wasn't great, but the characters were developed nicely and stuck to the comics pretty closely. Bruce Banner, I thought, was spot on to the comics. Not so much a hero, but a guy with a major bi-polar thing going on that noticeably creeps out most of the other characters. The other characters were also done well. I was always partial to Iron Man, he was fun to watch with good animation and voice acting. It was interesting that Marvel had a contest for fans who wanted to try out for the voice-over roles in this film. None of the fan submissions were chosen, standard voice-over actors were cast ( even Mark Hamill, although I'm not sure who he portrayed), but the video try outs are on the DVD. Fun if not embarrassing to watch. I'm just bummed that I did not know of this contest. I probably would have submitted my own try out. Don't worry, this one's not for kids as indicated by the PG 13 rating. Anyway, if you see this in the video store pick it up. I really enjoyed it.

I saw the commercial with my son the other day as well. I got the ever repeated mantra... "Can I have that?" After this commercial but with a little more inflection on the "that".

I can usually tell the more interesting toys/movies from the emphasis on "that"... Ah, decoding your children, wonderful pass-time.

Next I'd like to program them... The next one will have a Stop, pause (marginally different from stop) and mute! (In my dreams...)

I watched this before I decided to let Cam watch it. Cam and I read all the comic book encyclopedias we can get our hands on and watch the Teen Titans all the time. I'm glad I previewed it. There are lots of guns and some of the imagery is quite scary. The Incredible Hulk imparticular. But for grown ups, and I use that term very loosely, it's very entertaining.

I'm perfectly cabable of having my own opinion about this. Fuck you very much.

Every stick, toy, straw, and utensil that Cam picks up is a gun. This is not uncommon to his age. He's curious. When he asks questions about the subject, I answer them honestly and completely. What we are reducing is his exposure to them. We are choosing to expose him to different things at this time. He will get the education about this topic according to our agenda, not his or anyone else's.

Those of you who disagree are perfectly able to do as you wish with your own children. It's not as if were are isolating him. Jesus, Cam's greatest goal is to be a Ninja(sword, stars and all). Which is still far-and-away better that any goal I've ever had...
